FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Waukegan, Illinois
Due to severe weather conditions, the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit and all divisions thereof will be closed starting at noon on December 22, 2022, except for Bond Court, which will be heard remotely at 1:30 p.m. Other than Bond Court, all matters scheduled for the afternoon of December 22nd will be rescheduled to a date determined by the assigned judge, and notices will be generated by the Circuit Clerk.
Friday, December 23rd is a designated court holiday, thus, other than Bond Court proceeding remotely at 9:00 a.m., no other matters were scheduled for court on December 23, 2022. Emergency Juvenile Detention Hearings will be heard remotely as well, if necessary.
“While we are concerned about access to the court and the timely resolution of individual cases, we must balance that with public safety. Therefore, due to anticipated hazardous conditions and dangerously low temperatures the next few days, the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit is closing to ensure the safety of the court patrons, jurors, and employees,” said Chief Judge Mark L. Levitt.
The Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court will be closed, and the time for filing motions, answers, or any other pleading, process, or paper which would expire on December 22, 2022, is extended to December 27, 2022, the next business day of Court; however, the electronic filing of civil matters may continue throughout this time.
Jury Services will be closed and resume the week of December 27, 2022.
