Orders of Protection are a civil court order that provide protection for victims of domestic abuse and other incidents. Self-represented litigants needing help with e-filing Orders of Protection may visit the advocates in room D-100, located on the 2nd Floor of the Lake County Courthouse, or by contacting any of the Order of Protection Resources available.
The Order of Protection paperwork can be completed electronically through the Online Order of Protection (OOP) System at https://www.illinoisprotectionorder.org/OOP/ . If help is needed with filling out the forms online, the OOP system lists several resources, with websites and telephone numbers, that the filer will see as they are completing the form. Any agency listed on the OOP system will provide assistance.
After January 1, 2018, using the OOP system will only be one part of the new electronic filing mandate. Although the Order of Protection forms are completed electronically in this system, the forms will then have to be e-filed with the Court for final processing. Completion of the electronic filing process must be done using a certified Electronic Filing Service Provider (EFSP). A list of certified EFSPs, in addition to more information regarding the e-filing mandate, is available at: http://efile.illinoiscourts.gov/attorneys-filers.htm.
